Our bylaws stipulate that the majority of our Board members be the parents of children enrolled in our programs. It’s a great formula for keeping everybody’s children our top priority… but we need parents to make it work. Stepping Stones is an incredibly diverse organization with many business, financial, marketing, and regulatory needs. We also welcome the love, care, and consideration that parents provide. Please contact board@stepstonescc.org to learn how you might be considered for any future Board openings.
In 1979, a group of parent volunteers turned an old farmhouse on Eden Hall Farm in Gibsonia, PA into a schoolhouse in just nine days and Stepping Stones Children’s Center was born! Programs included Extended Day Child Care, Home Based Child Care, Preschool Education, and Time Out (a playgroup for toddlers). In 1981, Stepping Stones became a 501c (3) organization.
Over the next 15 years, Stepping Stones expanded its programs, adding Before/After School-Age Child Care, School-Age Summer Camps, Extended Day Child Care for Infants and Toddlers, and Kindergarten.
In 1990, Stepping Stones began its relationship with the Pine-Richland School District and Before/After School Age Care moved from the Farm House to Hance Elementary. This program expanded district-wide with the addition Richland and
Wexford Elementary Schools, and eventually Eden Hall Upper Elementary School.
The Main Center site was opened in 1995, which currently houses Extended Day Care and Preschool Programming, as well as the Stepping Stones Administrative Offices. In 2012, Stepping Stones began operating in the Seneca Valley School District. This program has Before/After School care and Kindergarten LEAP programming for four locations: Haine, Rowan, Evans City, and Connoquenessing Valley Elementary Schools.
In 2016, Stepping Stones began service in the Deer Lakes School District. This program had Before/After School programming at Curtisville Primary Center. Currently, Stepping Stones Children's Center operates in eight locations with over 650 children enrolled. We proudly celebrated our 40th Anniversary in 2019!
